HRSS School History
Holy Rosary Secondary School is a Day School for girls that opened its doors in February 1968 to the education of the young girls in Sierra Leone especially in the Eastern Region. The Missionary Sisters of the Holy Rosary started it as a Teacher Training College for girls with a boarding home and later it was transformed into a secondary school with a boarding home so as to meet the needs of the poor people who wanted to give their children a sound education at an affordable cost.
It also ensured the education of the girl child which at the time was a great necessity in this country. It is the only girls’ school within this locality and it serves a population of about 65,000 inhabitants. The school strives to give the students a holistic education, covering the intellectual, physical, emotional, moral and social aspects of life.
Holy Rosary Secondary School is in the town of Kenema, an area called Dama Road. Kenema is the capital of the Eastern Region and it is known for its cash crop farming and it is rich in diamonds. A lot of people in this area are very interested in peasant farming and the minimal wages they receive from the menial jobs in the Diamond minds.
